Brand Story
Built From The Bread Up
Nenes started in 2018 with the goal of bringing the popular Township originating Kota into the urban areas. This was due to a simple problem, you just couldn’t find any good ones there, this motivated our founder to Open Nenes with the inspiration of bringing the KasiStyle flavour into the urban areas.
The first Nenes restaurant opened in Midrand in a tiny yellow trailer, currently Nenes has a total 7 stores across Gauteng most being in major Malls. Plans to expand the brand beyond Gauteng are fast approaching with a Rustenburg store opening September 2025, further expansions into Cape Town and Durban along with increased stores in Gauteng are planned.
Nenes Kota is more than a meal – it’s a mouthwatering mission to make the Kota available in all corners of the country and to all ethnic and cultural groups. The Kota is a national treasurer that must be preserved as an expression of South African culture we will be able to export into the world, this is the Nenes mission.
